inThe Moorends bulletin seems to have fallen through the cracks again which is a pity really, as it would have been nice to have the Christmas Mass times confirmed. Fortunately the excellent Stainforth bulletin has all the details.
Christmas Eve
Vigil Masses at Stainforth at 6pm and Moorends at 7:30 pm
Christmas Day
Moorends 10:30 am and Stainforth at 6 pm
Dec 26th
Moorends at 10:30
Face coverings are mandatory, and social distancing should be observed. However, given the rapid transmission of the Omicron strain of Covid you should also consider taking a lateral flow test BEFORE travelling to Mass. If everyone does this then chances of infection will be greatly reduced.
A happy, healthy and Holy Christmas to you all

Joseph Donnelly O Praem, Thomas (Tommy) Causer (24th Dec), Walter Johnson (25th Dec) May they rest in peace and rise in glory. NOTICES THE TRADITIONAL FAMILY SERVICE AROUND THE CRIB is at 4pm tomrrow, 19th Dec. We place the figures in the crib, sing carols, light candles and Christingles and pray for peace. Everyone is welcome, families, friends and neighbours, and we’ll have a cuppa together afterwards. OUR PENITENTIAL SERVICE will be held on Tuesday 21st December at 6pm. This is a wonderful service of reconciliation as we approach the end of Advent and it would be lovely for it to be well supported and make us feel ready for the celebration of the Nativity of Our Blessed Lord Jesus at the end of the week. OUR CHRISTMAS EVE MASS on Friday evening begins with Carols at 5:45pm. Once again we ask people to sit in family groups and maintain sensible distancing. Thanks once again to Rose for the amazing tree. CONTINUED VIGILANCE IS PARAMOUNT as the Omicron Variant sweeps across the nation, please encourage all those around you to be extra careful and exercise every caution to help reduce the spread of this evil disease. Please continue to wear masks in Church and sanitise on entering and leaving the building. PLEASE REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS the family and friends of Dorothy Parkin who died this week. Dot served our parish in many ways over her lifetime, and was much loved in our school for her kind, cheerful personality and dedication. She was always on hand to advise, guide, organise and comfort. Dot was also central to our Parish Bingo where she worked tirelessly to provide entertainment and social interaction for the wider community and to earn much needed revenue for our parish. Dot’s funeral details are not yet available. THE NEW HEATING BOILER has now been installed and is being commissioned, but the church building is very damp and in need of a major clean-up operation. We know that many people wish to move back into Church for the Christmas Services, but this does not seem a practical option at this time, as this would need a huge amount of help and muscle to dismantle everything and prepare the church. FOOD BANK – This week the Foodbank has delivered food parcels to 17 homes in the area and 18 people came to collect from St Mary’s Church. Many thanks to all who contribute and all who run the Foodbank. PARISH SAFEGUARDING: Contact is Carol Flanagan. Many thanks Carol. A very important ministry. E-BULLETIN: Produced by John. Please email any items to churchstainforth. Thank You. |

THE ANNUAL SERVICE OF LESSONS AND CAROLS in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Bentley is on Tuesday 14th December at 7pm. Admission is free, For more details call John Carberry on 07866 164851. THE TRADITIONAL FAMILY SERVICE AROUND THE CRIB is at 4pm next Sunday, 19th Dec. We place the figures in the crib, sing carols, light candles and Christingles and pray for peace. Everyone is welcome, families, friends and neighbours, and we’ll have a cuppa together afterwards. OUR PENITENTIAL SERVICE will be held on Tuesday 21st December at 7pm. This is a wonderful service of reconciliation as we approach the end of Advent and it would be lovely for it to be well supported and make us feel ready for the celebration of the Nativity of Our Blessed Lord Jesus at the end of the week. HAVE WE BEEN HERE BEFORE? As the media and politicians were tearing chunks out of each other yet again this week, the new Omicron Variant was multiplying in the community at an alarming rate. Once again we hear rumours of the need for distancing and possible lockdowns. Please try to encourage those around you to be extra vigilant and exercise every caution to help reduce the spread if this evil disease. THE NEW HEATING BOILER should be installed this week and we hope it will be running by next weekend. However there has been no heating in church since last Easter and it it very cold and damp. We have a tough decision as to whether to celebrate Christmas in the Hall or return to Church, and we will have to wait until the new boiler is running before we can make it! This is made even tougher as we will have to consider the crib and whether or not we have a tree. If we do move into Church we will need a lot of help and muscle. FOOD BANK – This week the Foodbank has delivered food parcels to 10 homes in the area and 10 people came to collect from St Mary’s Church. Many thanks to all who contribute and all who run the Foodbank. PARISH SAFEGUARDING: Contact is Carol Flanagan. Many thanks Carol. A very important ministry. E-BULLETIN: Produced by John. To clear up the confusion over the re-introduction of the Sunday Mass obligation the Tablet published the following on November 24th
Bishops in England and Wales have postponed the planned return to Sunday obligation.
Bishops have decided to delay a return to Sunday obligation, suspended because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
They had planned to renew the obligation starting November 28th, thus requiring Catholics to return to Church this Christmas. But concerns over the numbers of infections and the ongoing risk to the vulnerable persuaded the bishops, who have just concluded their annual plenary assembly in Leeds, to delay indefinitely the return of the obligation to attend Mass each Sunday.
