NOTICES
THE THIRTIETH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR A: REFLECTION. Where love and charity abide, there God is found. When in the Book of the Apocalypse St. John the apostle describes the New Jerusalem coming down from heaven as "where God lives amongst mankind", he is in other words reiterating the aim, vision and mission of the task of evangelization namely, bringing God to the people and the people to God. In achieving this task, there’s no means or vehicle as powerful as the virtue of charity, an exemplary life filled with Christ- like love. Charity towards one another, showing the Christian love, care and concern towards the people around us and those we meet provide us with an express link to God Himself. By getting the love of God and the love of neighbour interwoven in a scintillating tapestry, Christ underscores the fact that the worship of God is quite inseparable from our day-to-day life experience. One’s true love for God finds its concrete expression in prompt response to human needs, that is, responding to the demands of relating to one’s neighbour.
SHALOM AND SALAAM: Mary of Nazareth, who is both Jewish and Palestinian, extend your mantle of mercy over all the peoples of the Holy Land – – Jews, Muslims, Christians, Palestinians, Israelis, migrants, and refugees. Mother of the Messiah, show us how to be instruments of healing and peace in the midst of war, occupation, terrorism, and divisions. Give us an embracing love for all in the Holy Land, especially hostages, innocent victims, the homeless, and the dying. Mary our Mother, given to us by Jesus on the cross, pray for us. — A fitting reflection from Stephen J Binz
CAFOD – ISRAEL/GAZA CRISIS. CAFOD has worked for many years in both Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory with partners who are Christian, Jewish, Muslim and secular and we join Pope Francis’ urgent call for peace and an end to the violence.
