NOTICES
THE DESCENT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT ON THE APOSTLES- PENTECOST: REFLECTION. The descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles marked another act of divine creation- the creation of a nascent apostolic Church built on the foundation of the apostles with Christ as the cornerstone. As an exclusive act the Creator Spirit, Pentecost event is also regarded as a feast of creation. The Holy Spirit in line with the divine act of love made manifest in the entire work of creation- the fruit of this act especially the world- comes to renew the face of the earth and kindle in the hearts of the faithful the fire of divine love. In his Gospel account of Christ’s post resurrection appearance to His disciples as we see in today’s Gospel reading, St. John the evangelist brings to the fore an image of the creation narrative capturing God’s act of breathing life into the nostrils of the first man. Cf. Genesis2:7. The breath of God is life, life embodified and encapsulated in the life- giving Spirit. And this Spirit is the life of the Church. To this extent, St. John the evangelist portrays the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles as the passing on of divine life into the Church and, as such, a new act of creation by God.
MICHAEL MCEVOY has asked me to thank you all for your prayers as doctors attempt to stabilise his condition so they can operate in the coming days. Michael is feeling very tired but in good spirits and expects to make a full recovery. Please continue to hold Michael and Mary in your prayers in the days and weeks to come.
PLEASE HOLD IN PRAYER Doris McBurney who is now in a nursing home in Selby. Doris is 96 and daughter Sadie says she is very frail, but wishes to be remembered to us all. Doris, husband Michael and the family will be fondly remembered by many in Stainforth where they worked tirelessly for our Parish.
OUR MISSION BOXES are due to be emptied. If you would like to bring your Mission Box to church, Winnie will collect them and return the following week. Many thanks Winnie for organising the boxes and the collections.

MARY’S MEALS PRAYER. Mary knew what it was to flee from her own country. We bring to you all refugee families and the most vulnerable communities in our society – we remember especially the children who eat Mary’s Meals in Syria, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Kenya. We pray, Lord, that you bless and protect all those who are trying to build new homes and a new life. We humbly ask you to bring healing and to restore their freedom. Amen.
