NOTICES
THE FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER YEAR B: REFLECTION. Given the nature of the human person as a social being, the desire for togetherness, the desire to express our bondedness with each other, the group or community is inevitable. Community is strength. There is power in togetherness. In expressing our oneness with Him in the imagery of the Vine and the branches, Christ highlights the fact that the secret of our spiritual fruitfulness lies in our union with God, a union that is realised especially in the Holy Eucharist. Whoever or whatever we identify ourselves with, do have some influence on us, and to some extent, who or what we become eventually. And so, what we identify ourselves with can help bring out the best or the worst in us on the contrary or even help kill the potential in us. In this imagery, Christ invites and exhorts us to always identify with Him, to always seek and find God’s presence in whatever we do and wherever we are. It is in God’s presence that we receive the grace to produce the required fruits of our Christian calling.
IMPORTANT PARISH MEETING
We need as many people as possible to attend a special Parish Meeting to be held in Church on Wednesday 1st May at 6pm. Time is running out for us to consider the questions posed by the Diocese in Bishop Ralph’s recent questionnaire. With attendances so low in many parishes, it is inevitable that we must once again decide whether to combine or close our doors and sell off some of our churches. We are entering a battle for survival and need to stand up, be counted and fight for our future. The questions we are asked to consider are as follows:
1. What are the good signs for your parish that you can see?
2. What are the concerns you have for your parish?
3. Where do you see your parish as we enter the year of Jubilee (2025)?
4. What actions do you think you/your parish need to take?
PRAYER INTENTION. During April, the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children and Knights of St Columbus are uniting in prayer to defend the sanctity of life and ask you to pray for those grieving the loss of a child during pregnancy.
FOOD BANK. Donations are vital to the Food Bank and ensure it continues to operate. Last week 20 people came to collect from St Mary’s Church. There were no deliveries. Many thanks to all who contribute.
