NOTICES PLEASE PRAY FOR THE PEOPLE OF INDIA as they are overwhelmed by the ravages of the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Their situation is dire as the number of cases rises uncontrollably and people are dying in huge numbers, often without the most basic of treatments and due in part to the lack of oxygen to help them breathe. The current thinking is that it will be around two weeks before the epidemic reaches its peak and the deaths will continue for several weeks after that. We pray for all those suffering pain and tragedy in India and all their relatives around the world who can only wait in hope. CAFOD: RECLAIM OUR COMMON HOME! From Pope Francis: “ …. NOTICES MOST OF US WILL TODAY HAVE WATCHED the funeral of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, conducted within the constraints of the Covid Pandemic. The nation is galvanised as we are at once bound in the great outpouring of grief on the loss of a central figure in our lives while at the same time being spellbound by the spectacle of a Royal Funeral. In a year where most families have lost people who we have grown up with and cherished, we can relate to the grief of Queen Elizabeth and the Royal Family as they – like us – are deprived of the ability to gather together with wider family and friends to celebrate the life of the one they have lost. Cardinal Vincent Nichols, preaching at a Requiem Mass for Prince Philip in Westminster Cathedral last Saturday, offered prayers for the Queen and the Royal Family: “Every family in grief needs comfort and support, and none more so than a grieving wife, our Queen. May our prayers contribute to her comfort and support.” The Cardinal celebrated a Requiem Mass for Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth II’s husband, who died aged 99 at Windsor Castle on Friday 9 April. He praised Prince Philip’s long service and achievements: “Achievements for young people, for engineering, for the environment, in the defence of our nation, for so many charitable causes. Yet it is for his selfless loyalty to the Queen and his tireless, generous sense of duty and service for which we give the most heartfelt thanks. Inspired by his Christian faith, and, I believe, by the example of his extraordinary mother, Princess Alice, the service given by Prince Philip will long be an inspiration to us all.” The full Homily is available on the Bishops Conference of England and Wales web site. PLEASE REMEMBER IN PRAYER the family and friends of Ruth Tiplady, who died recently. Ruths funeral service will take place in our church on Tuesday at 10.30am. SPARE A THOUGHT TO our Muslim friends who are now in the Holy Month of Ramadan and making huge personal sacrifices as required by their faith. A central tenet is the sharing of a ’Break-Fast’ or Iftar meal with family and friends but once again they are prevented by Covid from following this most important tradition. CAFOD WALK FOR WATER – 10,000 Steps a Day. Collections are still being taken in support of Lilian’s amazing walk in aid of this appeal. So far over £150 has been donated and we hope to send the proceeds to CAFOD in the next couple of weeks. So, if you have not already done so, then please try and make a donation using the special envelopes in the porch or on the table as you leave church. . FOOD BANK – This week the Foodbank has delivered food parcels to 18 homes in the area and 10 people came to collect from St Mary’s Church. NOTICES At this moment of sadness and loss let us pray for the repose of the soul of Prince Philip, the Queen’s faithful and loyal husband. We pray for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and all members of the Royal Family. Our Nation and indeed the whole world will miss Prince Philip’s presence and his character, so full of life and vigour. Prince Philip has been an example of steadfast loyalty and duty cheerfully given. He has done so much for our country and especially young people both at home and throughout the Commonwealth. It is with heavy hearts AND ‘DEJA VU’ that we watch the daily news reports showing the return of unrest and protests to the streets of Northern Ireland. These seem to be escalating daily and are reminiscent of the scenes from past decades which we all hoped we would never witness again. Some of this outpouring will be the results of people’s frustrations with months of pandemic lockdown. Some is no doubt attributed to border tensions resulting from the Brexit arrangements. But for the love of God there must surely be no return to the sectarian violence and bloodshed of the past! Has history taught them nothing!?! PLEASE REMEMBER IN PRAYER Anya Pearson, parents Yvonne and Colin, Tanisha, Amelia and Ellie and all the family members on the tragic and untimely death of Anya’s husband Stan. Stan was a loving and devoted husband, father, son and son-in-law and was untimely taken from us at the age of just 49 years. The funeral will take place this coming Tuesday, at 11:20am at Rose Hill Crematorium. Family flowers only and donations are to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. All are welcome to the service at the Crematorium but will be required to stand outside due to Covid restrictions. Many of us will fondly remember Anya and Stan’s wedding in our church and the wonderful celebrations we all had together afterwards. CAFOD WALK FOR WATER – 10,000 Steps a Day. Lilian made an enormous effort to meet the challenge with a magnificent 406,354 Steps!!! Collections have started and so far £70 cash has been given in envelopes plus a further £75 on the Just Giving Web Site. Please be generous and lets help CAFOD to provide clean drinking water for people in many parts of the world. There are envelopes in the porch and on the table as you leave church. While we have been through a terrible year in the United Kingdom, the people CAFOD support spend their entire lives in fear, drought, famine and shocking health inequality. FOOD BANK – This week the Foodbank has delivered food parcels to 19 homes in the area and 13 people came to collect from St Mary’s Church. Thanks so much to all involved and all who kindly donate food items. PARISH SAFEGUARDING: Contact is Carol Flanagan. Many thanks Carol. A very important ministry. E-BULLETIN: Produced by John. NOTICES The Resurrection of Jesus is the principle tenet of the Christian Faith; it proves that Jesus was the Son of God, and that He rose from the dead by His own power. On the third day after his Crucifixion and Death, after the Shabbat, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to the tomb of Jesus. They found the tomb empty and the stone rolled away and they proclaimed: “He is not here; he has risen, just as he said….”. (Mt. 28:6). Easter is linked to the Jewish Passover and the Exodus from Egypt recorded in the Old Testament through the Last Supper, sufferings, and crucifixion of Jesus that preceded the resurrection. According to the New Testament, Jesus gave the Passover meal a new meaning, as in the upper room during the Last Supper he prepared himself and his disciples for his death. He identified the unleavened bread and cup of wine as his body soon to be sacrificed and his blood soon to be shed. The Resurrection of Christ is the fruit of his perfect obedience to God’s will. St Paul writes: “He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every other name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven, on earth and under the earth and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.” (Phil 2:8-11). THANKS TO EVERYONE who helped to prepare for our Easter Triduum. Thanks to Dave and Kevin for cleaning Church; Teresa for keeping the Sacristy provisioned and ordering the candles and palms etc,; our stewards for taking care of people in Church; to Frank and Sue for their beautiful Lenten packs; our Greeters and Readers; Mike and our Musicians; Lillian for delivering the Bulletins and her Bereavement support; to Father Santosh for ministering to us and providing spiritual nourishment with his wise homilies; and most of all to you, our most amazing parishioners for your ardent faith, for trusting us to take care of you and for helping us to maintain a functioning Catholic Community in the most difficult of times. May God Bless you all and remain with you now and forever. I’m sure I will have missed some people and please forgive me. Thank you all so much for everything you do for us. PLEASE REMEMBER IN PRAYER Anya Pearson, parents Yvonne and Colin and all the family members on the tragic and untimely death of Anya’s husband Stan. Funeral arrangements will be published in next weeks Bulletin. This week WE BRING YOU a special Easter Edition of Celia Bermingham’s Series on Prayer. Sincere thanks to Celia and her writings have been a great help to many in our dark days of winter Lockdown. CAFOD WALK FOR WATER – 10,000 Steps a Day. Lilian has made an enormous effort to complete her quota and overwhelmed her step counter with a magnificent 406,354 Steps!!! It is now up to each and every one of us to match Lilian’s generosity with some cash which we can send off to CAFOD to help provide clean drinking water for people in many parts of the world. This is a separate initiative to the CAFOD Lenten Collection for which we distributed envelopes with last weeks Bulletin. While we have been through a terrible year in the United Kingdom, the people CAFOD support spend their entire lives in fear, drought, famine and shocking health inequality. So please be as generous as you can. FOOD BANK – This week the Foodbank has delivered food parcels to 19 homes in the area and 10 people came to collect from St Mary’s Church. Thanks so much to all involved and all who kindly donate food items. PARISH SAFEGUARDING: Contact is Carol Flanagan. Many thanks Carol. A very important ministry. E-BULLETIN: Produced by John.
