NOTICES

The Resurrection of Jesus is the principle tenet of the Christian Faith; it proves that Jesus was the Son of God, and that He rose from the dead by His own power. On the third day after his Crucifixion and Death, after the Shabbat, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to the tomb of Jesus. They found the tomb empty and the stone rolled away and they proclaimed: “He is not here; he has risen, just as he said….”. (Mt. 28:6).

Easter is linked to the Jewish Passover and the Exodus from Egypt recorded in the Old Testament through the Last Supper, sufferings, and crucifixion of Jesus that preceded the resurrection. According to the New Testament, Jesus gave the Passover meal a new meaning, as in the upper room during the Last Supper he prepared himself and his disciples for his death. He identified the unleavened bread and cup of wine as his body soon to be sacrificed and his blood soon to be shed. The Resurrection of Christ is the fruit of his perfect obedience to God’s will. St Paul writes: “He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every other name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven, on earth and under the earth and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.” (Phil 2:8-11).

THANKS TO EVERYONE who helped to prepare for our Easter Triduum. Thanks to Dave and Kevin for cleaning Church; Teresa for keeping the Sacristy provisioned and ordering the candles and palms etc,; our stewards for taking care of people in Church; to Frank and Sue for their beautiful Lenten packs; our Greeters and Readers; Mike and our Musicians; Lillian for delivering the Bulletins and her Bereavement support; to Father Santosh for ministering to us and providing spiritual nourishment with his wise homilies; and most of all to you, our most amazing parishioners for your ardent faith, for trusting us to take care of you and for helping us to maintain a functioning Catholic Community in the most difficult of times. May God Bless you all and remain with you now and forever. I’m sure I will have missed some people and please forgive me. Thank you all so much for everything you do for us.

PLEASE REMEMBER IN PRAYER Anya Pearson, parents Yvonne and Colin and all the family members on the tragic and untimely death of Anya’s husband Stan. Funeral arrangements will be published in next weeks Bulletin.

This week WE BRING YOU a special Easter Edition of Celia Bermingham’s Series on Prayer. Sincere thanks to Celia and her writings have been a great help to many in our dark days of winter Lockdown.

CAFOD WALK FOR WATER – 10,000 Steps a Day. Lilian has made an enormous effort to complete her quota and overwhelmed her step counter with a magnificent 406,354 Steps!!! It is now up to each and every one of us to match Lilian’s generosity with some cash which we can send off to CAFOD to help provide clean drinking water for people in many parts of the world. This is a separate initiative to the CAFOD Lenten Collection for which we distributed envelopes with last weeks Bulletin. While we have been through a terrible year in the United Kingdom, the people CAFOD support spend their entire lives in fear, drought, famine and shocking health inequality. So please be as generous as you can.

FOOD BANK – This week the Foodbank has delivered food parcels to 19 homes in the area and 10 people came to collect from St Mary’s Church. Thanks so much to all involved and all who kindly donate food items.

PARISH SAFEGUARDING: Contact is Carol Flanagan. Many thanks Carol. A very important ministry.

E-BULLETIN: Produced by John. Please email any items to churchstainforth. Thank You.
