NOTICES THE LOW SUNDAY (THE DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY): REFLECTION. NEXT SATURDAY A SPIRITAN FATHER will visit us to tell us about their Mission in the world. Some of us will fondly remember Father John Moriarty who ministered to us in Stainforth for a number of years. At that time they were known as Holy Ghost Fathers and were founded in 1703. Over 300 years on, over 3000 professed and lay Spiritans, drawn from all continents, today carry out their mission of evangelization in more than 60 countries throughout the world. They have a beautiful and informative web site at spiritans.co.uk PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR THE PEOPLE OF UKRAINE as they continue to suffer sustained attack from the brutal Russian regime. The war has been ongoing for two months and many, many thousands of people have been killed, maimed, traumatised, bereaved and suffered unimaginable pain and horror. THE LEAD BISHOP for Migrants and Refugees for the Bishops’ Conference, has commented on the UK government’s plan to send some asylum seekers to Rwanda: “The proposal to send some of those seeking asylum to Rwanda is at odds with the line from the Prophet Isaiah which we read as we prepare for Easter, ‘He does not break the crushed reed nor quench the wavering flame’ “Despite presenting the plan as a humanitarian need to combat trafficking, this scheme will compound the difficulties of those arriving on our shores hoping for a new beginning. The actions of the people of this country show that they wish to lift up those in need, decisions of the government should do likewise. PARISH SAFEGUARDING: Contact is Carol Flanagan. NOTICES WE ARE DELIGHTED TO CELEBRATE EASTER free of the Covid restrictions which have beleaguered us for the past two years. We have celebrated a full Holy Week Programme in Stainforth and we thank all those who came along to the services and to Father Joe for his ministry and uplifting homilies. A huge thanks to those who worked to clean and prepare the Church, to plan and rehearse the inspirational music and to prepare the various liturgies. We are also proud to welcome Ahmed and Jalal who will be Baptised and Confirmed in the Easter Vigil Service and join us as we renew our own commitments to Christ Jesus. HOLY SATURDAY REFLECTION. The resurrection of Christ constitutes the pivot and foundation of the Christian faith. The ceremony of light that ushers us into the celebration of the Easter vigil gives us some insight into the mystery of Christ’s resurrection. Given the hope of immortality it brings to mankind, the resurrection of Christ marks a new dawn in our world, in the life of the entire humankind and, indeed, a new dawn in the entirety of God’s creation. As it was in the old order, as contained in the creation narrative of the Bible, that light was ordered into existence at God’s command to dispel the darkness that shrouded the void Cf. Genesis 1:3; so it is that, at the resurrection of Christ, darkness of the world was put to flight. To this extent, the resurrection of Christ from the dead marks His victory over sin and death, victory over the powers of darkness and evil that had hitherto the time of Christ’s resurrection besieged the world. THANKS TO CHE CHILDREN OF THE HOLY FAMILY SCHOOL for creating some wonderful and beautifully worded Easter Cards for us. They are in a box in the Porch and it would be great if you could take them out to those elderly, sick or housebound parishioners who are not able to celebrate with us this Easter. PLEASE PRAY FOR JOANNE FEARN who died unexpectedly last Saturday. Remember especially Bradley and all family members and please respect Joanne’s wishes for a Pure Cremation on an undisclosed date and with no service or mourners. PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR THE PEOPLE OF UKRAINE as they continue to suffer sustained attack from the brutal Russian regime. The war has been ongoing for 50 days and many, many thousands of people have been killed, maimed, traumatised, bereaved and suffered unimaginable pain and horror. Our Diocese is appealing for a co-ordinator – contact aportaluri for details. Our first Ukranian Refugees arrived in the Parish this week and we hope they will be coming to the Wednesday Drop In Session in the Hall which is a regular feature of our outreach. We are looking for volunteers to come and work with the group so please speak to Mike or John if you are willing to join us. PARISH SAFEGUARDING: Contact is Carol Flanagan. NOTICES COVID ALERT: Infections are extremely high so we must continue to take precautions including maintaining safe distances from others and wearing face coverings in crowded enclosed spaces. THE FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT YEAR C: REFLECTION. In liberating the woman caught in the very act of committing adultery from the fatal clutches and jungle justice of the pharisees and the scribes, Christ confirms and fulfills the prophecy of Isaiah as we read in today’s first reading namely, "No need to recall the past, no need to think about what was done before." St. Paul the apostle, in the second reading, gives us a courage booster by telling us to forget the past and strain ahead for what is still to come. A Saint while on earth was asked, "What would you do if you are told that the world would come to an end by next week and, that would be the judgement day for all?" And his reply was, "I will carry on with my normal life." Forward ever; backward never, provided it is in the positive direction, is a nice slogan. But sometimes, life throws some challenges, burdens and difficulties that tend to weigh us down. The weight of sin, the pains and setbacks we encounter as a result of past mistakes are no exceptions. Nevertheless, we must not forget that the downfall of a man is not the end of his life. Sometimes, we stumble and fall is where we get the gold. What matters after each fall is to pick up the lessons as we gather our broken pieces. FATHER JOSEPH WILL BE VISITING the sick and housebound of our Parish on Wednesday. Please call Teresa on 07714 793120 if you require further details. PLEASE PRAY FOR THE PEOPLE OF UKRAINE as they continue to suffer attack from the brutal Russian regime.
