NOTICES
THE SOLEMNITY OF CHRIST THE KING OF THE UNIVERSE: REFLECTION. In presenting the scenario of the Gospel reading as it pertains to us, Christ reminds us that whatever happens in our phenomenal and familiar world has got some relevance to eternity. To this extent, little acts of kindness has got some significance in eternity. Human graciousness and charity constitute a solid foundation for welcome into eternal life in heaven. There is restriction whatsoever to the kind or magnitude of charity, care, concern or attention given to these classes of people namely, the sick (both in hospital or housebound), the hungry, the thirsty, the homeless, the naked and the imprisoned, provided they were truly in need of such acts of kindness. Whatever good treat we dish out to them, what we need to be aware of is that it is Christ Himself that we meet in them. Christ the king is approached through the good treats we dish out to others, and in doing so, we profess and acknowledge His kingship. God is sought, found and loved in others.
THIS COMING WEDNESDAY at 9.30am there will be a Blessing of the Advent Wreaths Liturgy in Holy Family School and all parents and parishioners are welcome to attend.
PARISH CHRISTMAS CARDS. Please take a few moments to sign the cards on the tables at the back of church for the sick and housebound of our parish. It is important to people who can no longer get to church that we show we really appreciate and care about them.
OUR CHRISTMAS RAFFLE will be drawn next Saturday and hopefully raise much needed funds for our parish. There are over 20 wonderful prizes including a meal for four at the Toby Carvery, a chocolate basket, food hamper, puzzles, toys and so much more. So far over £150 has been raised but please try to sell a few more this week if you can – perhaps ask family and friends to support us. Many thanks for your continued generosity.
PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY for those living in terrible hardship in places of war and terror. We think mainly of those in Gaza and Ukraine where so many people are needlessly losing their lives, surrounded by immense suffering, terror and mutilation. Sadly, there are many other places such as Sudan, Yemen and Afghanistan to name but a few. Each Wednesday in our Hall, we meet with people who have fled from oppression and torture, mainly in Africa and the Middle East. We hear their stories. see their injuries and try to help them to overcome fear and mental anguish and give hope of rebuilding their tattered lives. We welcome volunteers keen to live out the Gospel of Christ and help in any way.
FOOD BANK. Donations are vital to the Food Bank and ensure it continues to operate. Last week the Foodbank delivered to 2 homes and 14 people came to collect from St Mary’s Church. Many thanks to all who contribute.
