NOTICES

APOLOGIES FOR THE ABSENCE of the Weekly Reflection, but with Father Joe away we don’t have one! If any kind soul feels able to research or write one for us for the next four weeks then we would be delighted to publish it.

WE OFFER A WARM WELCOME TO FATHER ANDREW who will be joining us from Manchester minister to us while Father Joe is visiting his family and friends in Nigeria.

PLEASE DON’T FORGET the peoples of Ukraine and Israel/Gaza as the turmoil and suffering continues with no sign of peace. We pray for them and many other ordinary people in the world who are caught up in conflict and injustice.

THIS WEEKEND WE CELEBRATE Peace Sunday and for his theme for the World Day of Peace this year, Pope Francis has chosen ‘Artificial Intelligence and Peace’. Whilst this might seem a strangely technical theme, we do need to think about the consequences of the advances in Artificial Intelligence for peace and justice.

PRAYER FOR PEACE SUNDAY. God our creator and sustainer, we thank you for the gifts of creativity you have given us, for the ability to explore science and understand your creation. We ask your forgiveness for the times we have used science for evil and not for good, for war and not for peace. Make us vigilant as we develop technology, that violence and discrimination may not take root, that injustice and inequality will not be fuelled, that the poor and vulnerable will not pay the cost. May all that we create contribute to peace and justice. Amen

OUR THOUGHTS ARE TURNING to Lent and Easter and there is much to do to prepare. First and foremost is the Lenten Journey, but that requires people to plan it and to host and arrange the events plus people to support and hopefully enjoy them. So the question is – are you in ??? If so, please speak to Teresa, Brian, Carol or one of the stewards at Mass and let us know your suggestions and how you would be prepared to help. Then we have the Easter Raffle to organise and hopefully raise much needed funds to help cover the rising costs of keeping our building open. The Christmas Raffle was a great success, so please try to help us by donating prizes – especially chocolaty ones 😊.

WE HAVE BEEN ASKED TO CONSIDER reinstating the passing around of the collection plate at Mass then bringing the offerings to the altar in the Offertory Procession. Hopefully we will resume this tradition in the coming weeks.

FOOD BANK. Donations are vital to the Food Bank and ensure it continues to operate. Last week the Foodbank delivered to 11 homes and 39 people came to collect from St Mary’s Church. Many thanks to all who contribute.
